15 more sleeps
We've just returned from a four day weekend in Manduarah for Paul's 50th birthday. The cloudless blue sky, bright sunshine and dry heat will be a distant memory in three weeks time as we punch out across the wild southern ocean in Cath and Darrel's 60 foot yacht 'Spirit of Sydney', en route to the icy wilderness of Antarctica. While Tony caught up with his sister Marlene, my 12 year old nephew Connor was a great training buddy, taking me on his favourite 'heart walk' in Mandurah; lot's of back yard and beach cricket; plus a slick train ride up to Perth to tackle Jacob's Ladder, the Kokoda Track, DNA Tower and as many other hills, steps and bush trails as we could find in Kings Park. 6 year old Cooper generously provided a resistance training opportunity in the form of a 30kg shoulder ride when his legs and scooter could go no further. Unfortunately boating and beach cricket wouldn't be complete without fish n chips; nor would Paul's 50th without the best chocolate cake I've had in my life! and a few (dozen) bundies - possibly not the best physical preparation, but hey, very good for the heart and soul.
